When police pull you over, many times they are not just trying to issue a ticket for speeding or following too closely or some other minor offence.

Police are often trained that this is the foot in the door.  That they may then start asking questions and peeping onto your vehicle to try to find something that you MIGHT have done wrong.

They will ask, “Do you have anything in your car you shouldn’t have?” – DON”T ANSWER THAT!  If you answer no the next question is “So you don’t mind if I search your car?”

That question is intended to make you feel intimidated and offer them the opportunity to poke around in your private property.  Once inside they can hold anything they find against you, even if they don’t find anything.

Police don’t have the right to impede your travel without cause.  Provide your License, Insurance and registration then be quiet.  You might ask why you were stopped, but don’t get into any argument.  Let them write the ticket and then go on your way.

Fight it in court.

Notice a few things in this video:

They keep asking for him to roll his window down. – This is so they can say they smell marijuana or alcohol, giving them probable cause to search the vehicle.

They ask to check his window tint.  This is another reason to have him open his door or roll his window down further for the “smell test”.

The cop tried to accuse him of following too closely – the reason for the “stop” – but this guy had his dashcam and told the cop he had it so the cop then backed off on that claim only asking if he knew how close he was.  Knowing that the dashcam might exonerate the driver in court he never issues that citation.

The cop asks the same questions several times – trying to get that fishing expedition going.
